Hartford Artisans Center

The Hartford Artisans' Center's mission is to increase the economic independence, enhance the vocational skills and broaden the interpersonal experiences of people who are elderly and of people with disabilities, through works in the arts.

The Hartford Artisans' Center, a program of Oak Hill, was established in 1995 by Rebecca Earl, Ph.D. and EdJohnetta Miller, to meet the economic and social needs of people with disabilities, primarily blindness, and those who are elderly. The Center has become an important part of the artisans' lives. They feel so proud of their creative accomplishments and have formed a support network that extends beyond the Center. An unexpected benefit from the program is that it has helped change the way people look at the abilities of people with disabilities and seniors, giving them a place in society of which they can be enormously proud.
